fingering ivory and ebony
flesh tones permeate notes
silent, sustained, staccato.
Player is propped, stiff,
erect in posture, as rigid
as stiletto heels,
as supporting arm.
The piano remains open
on display for all to see.
Secrets get sung on
those chromatic scales,
just as exposed as she allows.
